Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s presidential rally drew around 20,000 people.
“I remember those crazy days when Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, Maria Kalesnikava and Veranika Tsapkala were touring across Belarus and had a ‘full house’ at every meeting with the people. The trio visited three cities per day – a very fast pace. I travelled along with them and documented those rallies. It’s important to note that the officials knew about the ‘full house’ rallies, but issued permits for the most inconvenient spots to hold them. That day in Brest was extremely hot. People started to gather in the area a few hours in advance. At the appointed time, the host announced that Tsikhanouskaya was running late because her car had been stopped by traffic authorities. I remember how the sun was burning and how some people were fainting, but still waited for the trio so patiently,” said the photographer.
