Differently from the previously discussed artists, prominent contemporary Latvian artist Miķelis Fišers sees the world of the future as a dark place where different species fight for dominance and seek revenge on each other. On the other hand, Fišers’ visions of the future are playful and ironic. His work interweaves humour, mysticism, kitsch, as well as the aesthetics of serious art.
Predicting a bleak future, the series What Can Go Wrong is inspired by conspiracy theory. The future world represented here is a quite realistic one in which people and animals have retained their familiar forms. The characters are gathered next to recognisable landmarks such as the pyramids at Giza. But the work shows us a world in which people no longer hold positions of power and have been replaced by animals, aliens and fantastic creatures.
