What do dead nature, treasures and art have in common? The multi-faceted works of Giedrius Jonaitis, a graphic artist who likes to provoke, ask precisely this question. An interesting fact about this artist is that he designed most of the pre-euro Lithuanian litas banknotes. And when the litas was taken out of circulation, Jonaitis used shredded litas currency in works critiquing consumer culture.
Star Badger is at once comical and frightening. The stuffed animal is standing on glass columns or legs that are filled with shredded banknotes. The badger’s head is decorated with horns and he is wearing armour made of coins. The work is an impressive chimera of nature, art and technology that brings together the disciplines of natural science, history, archaeology, biology and physics.
